About this winery
The foundation of the winery where we vinify our wines today was laid in 1679. For more than 300 years, mixed farming had been practiced in the flatlands and on the terraces around Langenlois, with viticulture playing only a minor role. Product notes
The Six Kings are part of the animal world around the small town of Langenlois in the Austrian Kamptal. There they inhabit a nature that today is characterized by protected forests, isolated meadows and many vineyards. Around 2000 years ago, the Celts lived in the landscape crisscrossed by rolling hills and clear rivers. They dominated the area north of the Alps, but were not only warriors, but also skilled miners, farmers and traders. They forged tools and weapons, raised livestock, and grew vegetables, legumes, and grains. They brewed beer from wheat. They also knew wine, but they did not cultivate it themselves. The Six Kings all have names of Celtic origin in their honor. The Weszeli winery, the home of The Six Kings, is now located in the immediate vicinity of one of their former most important settlements.
Production notes
Organic viticulture is practiced here in often steeply sloping vineyards. Animals have important functions. They often replace machines, are used as four-legged lawnmowers, natural fertilizer suppliers or skilled pest controllers. By far the most important grape variety in Austria is Grüner Veltliner. It is multifaceted and complex and is considered by many to be one of the best in Europe. The Grüner Veltliner of The Six Kings is well selected and vinified at the highest level of craftsmanship. It is light-footed and full of life and its aromas are reminiscent of fresh apples, meadow herbs and white flowers.
