In 1791, the Miquel family acquired Château Cazal Viel. Today, the vineyard represents the largest independent estate in the Saint-Chinian appellation. Cultivated with passion by Henri, and his son Laurent, an 8th generation winemaker, these poor lands give birth to great wines of the Saint Chinian appellation and exceptional whites. Our philosophy is simple: only superior grapes can produce great wines. This approach clearly presides over all the Château's viticultural activity. In terms of vineyard planting, it is essential to have the right density and management, noble grape varieties (our Syrah vineyards are among the oldest in the region) and exceptional viticulture. We use reasoned cultivation methods. We deliberately practice very low yields throughout the vineyard. Finally, a permanent vigilance, increased during the harvest, allows us to avoid the slightest detail that could affect the high level of quality we are looking for. We are convinced that the marriage of very poor soils and old vines gives a "typicity" and great finesse to the wines of Cazal Viel.
