Almost 60 years ago, the adventure took root in the Muscadet lands southeast of Nantes, when Bernard Chéreau père married Edmonde Carré. The Maison Chéreau-Carré was born. It is the beginning of a story that brings together three generations of passionate winegrowers. First there was Bernard Chéreau père, who took up the crazy challenge of buying the Château de Chasseloir, where a few hundred-year-old vines rubbed shoulders with horses, cows and cereal fields, with the ambition of creating a unique Muscadet, capable of rubbing shoulders with the Grands Crus. Then Bernard Chéreau fils, who gave up his medical studies to join the estate, pushed by his love of the land of Muscadet and wanting to make Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine sur lie known throughout France and beyond our borders. Finally, Louise, whose strength of character pushes the House to constantly renew itself, exploring new grounds, to seduce more and more lovers of exceptional Muscadet. The basis of our work comes from the soil, the vines and the climate: the Terroir. Since our origin, we have selected what we believe to be the best terroirs to produce our wines. In order to protect our most precious asset and to ensure a constant quality of wines, we have made the choice of reasoned agriculture. It allows us to adapt the work of the land according to the weather. Our work is led by the certainty that there is no such thing as a corn, Muscadet. For this reason we work the vine plot by plot using winemaking methods adapted to each terroir to create different vintages.
