Château Puyfromage is the property of 4 brothers (Yves, Francis, Philippe and Frédéric Marque) from a family whose ancestors were coopers, manufacturers of cellar equipment, wine growers and wine merchants. Their grandfather, Abel Albert, acquired Château Puyfromage in 1943. Château Puyfromage is committed to an environmentally friendly approach in order to enhance the authentic expression of its terroir, its grapes and its wines. All the work of our team is in line with this perspective and is permanently articulated around two axes: quality and the environment. Our know-how allows us to offer you a wine of pleasure: fruity, round, with an aromatic expression and supple tannins. Château Puyfromage is located in a privileged position on the highest slopes of the Gironde, next to Saint-Emilion. Between the valleys of the Dordogne and the Isle, about 50 km north-east of Bordeaux. The Francs Côtes de Bordeaux appellation covers 500 hectares and is composed of 3 communes: Francs, Saint-Cibard and Tayac. The appellation is the smallest and most eastern of the Bordeaux appellations. Its recognition by the Institut des Appellations d'Origine Contrôlée in its current boundaries dates back to 1967. Geology: In continuity with the limestone plateau of Saint-Emilion, our terroir is made up of clayey-limestone and clayey-limestone soils which allow us to regulate the water supply and thus produce wines of character, fruity and balanced. The varied composition of our soils contributes to the richness of our wines. The porosity of the limestone allows us to absorb excess water and to make this water available to the vines in dry weather. The roots of the vines sink into the soil, stop at the level of the rock and capture the water that rises by capillary action. The water supply is therefore naturally regulated. A continental climate marked by dry, harsh winters and hotter summers than in the rest of Bordeaux. The climate influences the profile of the harvest. Vineyard: 53 hectares planted at 5,000 vines per hectare. Our vineyard has achieved a balance between young and older vines (average age 35 years) thanks to the planting of 2 hectares on average per year.
