The proximity of the Gironde estuary and the Atlantic Ocean create a microclimate very favorable to the vineyard and the good ripening of the grapes. Laujac, is an ancient place which certainly finds its origin in the conquest of Gaul. Names ending in "ac" are indeed used to designate most often in Gironde a Gallo-Roman villa. OF OUR DAYS Following the phylloxera invasion at the beginning of the century, the World Wars and the severe frosts of 1956, only 8 hectares of vines remained when Bernard CRUSE took over the management of the estate in 1957. He then undertook the reconstitution of the vineyard, the modernization of the technical tools and the renovation of the buildings. After 55 harvests, this passionate winegrower handed over the management of Laujac in 2012 to his daughter Vanessa and his son-in-law René-Philippe DUBOSCQ. The vineyard then extends over 60 hectares. They make large investments in the vineyard and in the wine storehouses in order to increase the quality requirements and to allow the continuity of the effort to reconstitute the vineyard while respecting the environment. Their objective is to produce the best wines and to show how unique this terroir is. THE TERROIR OF LAUJAC The wines of Laujac come from the blending of wines produced on different geological formations. The limestone clays, of tertiary age, support the Merlot grape variety which expresses itself particularly well on these relatively heavy soils. They easily produce full, generous and concentrated wines. The second part of the Laujac terroir is made up of plio-quaternary formations, characterized by fine gravel. On these draining soils, Cabernet Sauvignon reigns supreme, alongside Petit Verdot. This part of the vineyard is the oldest and produces very fine and complex wines. The Cabernet Sauvignon is the main grape variety in Laujac. It produces a wine full of finesse and bouquet with a strong keeping power. Perfectly adapted to gravelly soils, the Cabernet Sauvignon brings to the wines of Laujac their remarkable structure. Merlot flourishes on gravel and clayey-limestone soils. Fruity and tasty, it brings to the wines of Laujac their roundness. The Petit Verdot, with its sweet violet perfume, is blended in small quantities to perfect the beautiful complexity of the wines of Laujac.
