Product notes
The 2019 Rayhill Pinot Noir represents our eighth vineyard-designated bottling from this prestigious source. The Rayhill Vineyard lies in the newly recognized Sebastopol Hills district within the highly desired Russian River Valley appellation. The premium-quality eight-acre vineyard experiences warm, sunny days and cool, breezy evenings that yield elegant and incredibly expressive pinot noir grapes.
Production notes
The Rayhill Vineyard is typically one of the last pinot noir vineyards to ripen in Sonoma County. Harvested on October 1 and October 5, all three blocks were handpicked, completely destemmed, and fermented separately with gentle hand-punching twice a day. At dryness, the free run was put to barrel separately and aged sur-lie for 10 months.
Tasting notes
Medium purple/ruby color with attractive aromas of strawberry compote, red cherry and plum with toasted oak, vanilla and cinnamon spice, leather, red licorice, a little camphor with subtle purple floral notes. On the palate the wine is moderate to not quite full-bodied with ripe fruit of red berry, cherry and plum with vanilla, cinnamon and toasted oak leading into a mid-palate that features leather, a touch of dried herbs, camphor with underlying earthy notes. The finish is moderately long and fresh with lingering fruit, barrel spice and perfectly balanced tannins.
