Classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Blaye is a timeless place where Art and History mingle. Its royal citadel has for centuries dominated the prestigious wine region that surrounds it. It is surely the most authentic vineyard in the Bordeaux region. Behind each castle gate is a winegrower, a man, a family. Overlooking the Gironde estuary, Château Loumelat is ideally located. Cultivated on hillsides, its vines benefit from a privileged exposure which allows to create wines of a rare finesse. Located 10km North-East of the historical city of Blaye, the soils of the estate are mainly sandy-clay on limestone clay. The latter are composed of different sedimentary layers left there by the ocean millions of years ago. The 240 annual days of sunshine and the numerous geological movements of the past give this terroir its unique character. In the dynamics of sustainable agriculture, this property, owned by the Mariochaud family since 1778, benefits from the technical know-how of the Lesgourgues family, who control the viticultural and commercial policy. The vineyard covers 49 hectares: 38 hectares on the plot "L'Oumelat" for the reds and 11 hectares on the plot "Le Champ des Pins" for the whites. The wines are available in a network of wine merchants, in restaurants and for export, mainly in Europe, North America and Asia.
